Maiden victory for new Pilot Race 2

The new Michelin® Pilot® Race 2 supersport racing tire earned its maiden victory at the Formula USA finale at Daytona Beach, Florida, on October 21. Grant Lopez (Valvoline Suzuki-Michelin) won the first leg of the Unlimited Superbike class, after his teammate, Josh Hayes, also using the Pilot Race 2, qualified on pole.

Lopez was headed for victory in the event's second leg when a cloudburst on Daytona's backstretch on the final lap caused him to slow while leading. Meanwhile in the Pro Sportbike class, Hayes narrowly missed scoring the Pilot Race 2's second U.S. victory, getting nipped at the finish by Michael Barnes, who won by .042 second.

With the successful debut of the new Pilot Race 2 series, Michelin has once again raised the bar for supersport performance. Using exclusive Michelin radial-delta construction and aggressive tread compounds, the Pilot Race 2 is intended primarily for races that require DOT-approved tires. The new Pilot Race 2 will be available in three models:

Pilot Race S2: for smooth circuits, moderate track temperatures, qualifying sessions or shorter races;

Pilot Race M2: more resistant to treadwear than Pilot Race S2, for higher temperatures or abrasive track surfaces;

Pilot Race H2: street use, for ultimate backroad performance or the occasional track day.

The Pilot Race S2 and Pilot Race M2 are available exclusively through Michelin motorcycle race tire distributors.

Frank Kinsey Racing School will be your trackside distributor for the Florida & Southeast Region CCS events.
